I started season one about a month ago, right before season three started. I was successful in not having a social life for two weeks as I sat in the dungeon of my basement watching both seasons back-to-back. I have since picked up the book series and I am on the second, “A Clash of Kings.”

I tend to have a bit of addictive personality disorder when it comes to television. Many of us know by now that I am a die-hard fan of The Walking Dead, but now I have Game of Thrones to fill in the void until it return in October. Just great, I am consumed with two great television shows at different times of the year so that my year is, in fact, always filled up with something to watch on Sunday nights. 

How amazing is the show, though? There’s sex and killing and deception and love and above all, the show has followed the books to a T, thus far. That means the killer dialogue and quotes and witty lines spewed out by everyone- namely, Tyrion Lannister, are spot-on.

The producers of the show understand not to completely fuck up a great thing. A little fine-tuning to make the show its own is totally acceptable, and I appreciate them for finding a sense of difference in that doesn’t stray far off track.  The cast is beautiful, the shooting locations are even more so. I have found a new longing to explore places I have never been thanks to my many hours watching behind the scenes footage. I mean, Morocco and Iceland? Yes, please!

My favorite characters are by far Jon Snow, Robb Stark and Ser Jorah Mormont, but the cast is so incredibly talented it gets hard to put them in order after that.

If anyone knows of conventions any of the actors attend, do let me know. I saw that Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) and Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) were at an expo in Calgary, Canada last month, so I presume they do these things every so often.

So, who else LOVES GoT? Share your thoughts! I love reading what people like and dislike about the zillions of storylines and sub-storylines and the cast that we hate to love, and love to hate.

Milton turning into a walker was fantastic. The opening scene, panning from the one eye of evil and setting up a scenario straight out of hell was even better. The rest of last night’s finale episode of The Walking Dead was underwhelming.

We had been given so much build up for a prison war for the better half of season three, then the Governor and his gang roll up to an empty house. I loved when they busted through the prison gates, blowing up the guard tower, entering the prison like it wasn’t a big deal at all. But where was the battle like the graphic novel did so beautifully. Why didn’t the Governor die? Why did Andrea, a heroine of sorts in the comic die last night?

Why did a group of 30 men and women leave the prison after Maggie and Glenn were shooting at them, failing miserably to take down even one person? Was that even a real scene? “We did it?”- Maggie, “We did it!”- Glenn. Ridiculous.

Moral of my story: some things are better left untouched. There was absolutely no need to diverge so far from the comic. To kill off a character like Andrea ruined the show in a way for me. The writers had been ruining Andrea’s character from the get go; blaming Dale for being alive, shooting Daryl, siding with Shane, leaving Michonne and sleeping with the Governor. The least production could have done was given her a shot at redeeming her character before killing her off. Now we didn’t see her get shot, and my last stretched hope for her salvation is that she wasn’t actually bit and the gunshot was for Milton. However, where would the writers of season four take Andrea? Is there anything left for Andrea if she is still alive? The comic Andrea will always be superior, and one of my absolute favorites. What a damn shame.

At this rate, the initial Atlanta group will be gone by the end of season four. How does that sit with everyone?

I have to say that David Morrissey was a gem this season and particularly, this episode. When he saw red on the road and killed all but three of his “soldiers,” he acted the part of a deranged mad man with perfection. I was so thrown off by that part and my stomach was in knots. Sick, twisted and brilliant.

Side note: finale’s like this need to be two hours, with the amount of commercials AMC crams into one hour, I felt like I had all of 30 minutes to take in way too much that was being thrown at me.

I love that Carl is becoming cold yet braver. I have faith that Tyreese and Michonne will become bigger parts of season four. I am anticipating the death of Philip Blake, also known as, The Governor. It sucks we have to wait until October, but maybe now I can retreat slowly back into the real world and become normal again!

That’s my short and not so sweet review. I watched the episode again this morning before class to make sure last night’s feelings of “meh” were still there, and they were. While I love what showrunner Glen Mazzara has done for season three, he skimped on the finale. Welcome, Scott Gimple as the new showrunner. Let’s see where he takes us next. The community? The cannibals? The hilltop? All I know is it better be good, there are a lot of frustrated fans this morning.

A relatively short post today, I just want to make predictions like I did last season. I’m usually 50/50 with them so it gets fun. Spoilers from episode 13 only, I know nothing of future episodes and my predictions are based solely on my own opinions formed from comics and what I’ve developed from the episodes.

Martinez and Milton Join the Grimes’ Side

Dare I say Martinez is better looking on the show.

It has become clear that Milton is not comfortable living alongside a madmen like the Governor. He seems to have realized this all yesterday, like a kick to the gut. He wants out. Kind of how Andrea felt when she learned that the Governor possibly raped Maggie. She wants out, too. Finally things are coming to a head.  Martinez on the otherhand, seems to have found a friend. Reading between the lines of early viewing last night, Daryl and Martinez’s “show-offy” zombie slaying meant more than just who’s the bigger badass (cough, Daryl).

In the comics, Martinez is a much larger role than he has been on the show. He eventually leads a captive Michonne and Dr. Stevens out of Woodbury safely. He ends up turning around and ratting them out for it, Rick kills him and that’s that, but, I think Martinez will jump ship come episode sixteen.

Lil’ Asskicker Kicks the Bucket

It’s an old and odd saying, but it means… to die. There’s no way Judith is going to make it out of this prison battle alive. Granted whoever cast this baby as her role as Judith Grimes should get a promotion, (that is one cute kid),  I cannot stand the thought of a baby going any further in this show, especially if the show ends up meeting the cannibals next season. This was the order of the comics, so I am going to assume that’s where they are headed since the show seems to stay on track in that regards. Since she can’t die the way she did in the comics (in the arms of her mother, Lori), she is going to die in the arms of someone else- and that someone else I believe will be Beth, and so… Beth will die as well. But I have been predicting Beth’s death since the finale of season two.

Andrea kills the Governor

She won’t just shoot him in the head either. I think Andrea is going to be forced with the decision to kill him and he will look her in the eyes all along. We got a sneak peak of that from last night’s “scenes from the next” where Andrea mentions the need to kill the Governor, but we all know how these things work out- or don’t. With three episodes left, they’ll leave us hanging on whatever crap Andrea’s mouth spews this time, until the very end. I feel that a deeper part of me will be very upset when the Governor dies. David Morrissey is an incredible actor, and the Governor is the first real antagonist the show has seen. He is a huge part of The Walking Dead franchise; prequelling novels “The Rise of the Governor,” and “The Road to Woodbury,” were amazing in their own rights. However, the Governor has to die and he’ll be sure to take more than a handful with him. That’s the way the zombie apocalypse world works.

There was no Governor or Andrea bickering in Clear, no hard-decision making by Glenn and Maggie, no baby Judith crying and no Beth singing. Last night was all about the return of season one’s Morgan.

In all honesty, the episode was less than epic. I get that Morgan was an integral role in the survival of Rick way back when, but he has been gone for quite some time now. I forgot what it was like to…. like… him. However, it was heartbreaking to know that little Duana didn’t make it, and even worse to know that it was his zombie mother who had killed him (and all because Morgan couldn’t shoot her when he had the chance in season one). In the comic, we got to see a walker Duane. I suppose production thought it might be too much too quickly to re-introduce a character and then shove his dead son down our throats.

I found it completely endearing that Michonne and Carl bonded last night. She was kind, charming and witty. She gave Carl his space but pulled him in all at the same time. If she wanted to seal her spot in the Grimes’ crew for good, she was smart enough to go through Carl, first. Besides, Carl did tell his pops that she was A-OK in his book.  

Morgan had the guns Rick’s former police station was lacking. I going to guess that when Rick and Morgan separated in episode one, Morgan turned right around and got what he needed- which was everything the station had! Overall, Morgan’s booby-trapped “home” was a jackpot for the threesome and if a box full of baretta’s don’t do the trick when the Governor comes for war, I’m going to assume that the vast array of assault rifles will do the trick.

Today I will briefly discuss the incoming battle, comic vs. show, set up by “I Aint a Judas,” and how it will most likely play out throughout the remainder of season three.

On the brink of war: Team Prison vs. Team Woodbury

The inevitable battle between the Governor and Officer Grimes is just about here. In the comics, Tyrese was on the Grimes’ side and is killed in this battle. When Tyrese and his crew ran into Andrea and Milton in the woods, I was shocked and eventually screaming at my television when they left for “safe harbor” at Woodbury. When this war comes, it will be interesting to see how Tyrese will turn out, and what exactly he will have to do to get on the Grimes’ side once and for all, earning Rick’s trust. He did tell the Gov that Rick was crazy, and offered a map of the prison‘s layout. A clever look on this situation by one of my Facebook friend’s was that the two in Tyrese’s group who plotted the murder of Carol and Carl (and the prison takeover), well, they will stay with the Governor (die), and Tyrese and Sasha will separate. Whether this happens before or after the battle is up in the air.

*Fun fact for non-comic readers: Lori and her baby die during the prison battle.

*My prediction based on nothing I’ve heard: I believe Andrea will take the Grimes’ side and by the end of season three, will be the one who kills the Governor.

Rick

Hershel told him best when he said, “Do something,” last night as Rick almost exited to prison to do God knows what. We are all waiting patiently for the badass leader to regain his form. Lori is dead and gone, and so will everyone else if he doesn’t act quick. Honestly, no one can lead that group like he can- and that includes Daryl.

Merle

So far, so good. He knew a Bible passage like the back of his one hand and offered apologies to Michonne for…. trying to kill her. In some ways it is easy to feel sorry for Merle, especially when he speaks to his brother in desperation and fear for being left alone. With a war brewing, there is no real time for judge and jury, and man power is significantly lower than the Governor’s. This war, should Merle make it out alive, will prove his place.

Andrea reuniting with her Atlanta group made me a bit sentimental. It was hard to watch her take in the news of Shane, T-Dog and Lori. Will she take the advice of Carol and kill the Governor in his sleep? Of course not. That would make for poor television. I do believe that Andrea is beginning to redeem herself and we will see the amazing character she always was in the comics. She will prevail!
