Who Can Make the Funniest Joke About a Murder Case? Aaron Hernandez Edition
I was getting my jog on at the gym when the news first broke about New England Patriots Tight End, Aaron Hernandez. I actually stayed on longer so I could catch all the new developing details about the 23 year-old football star’s arrest surrounding the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player and acquaintance of Hernandez.
While the entire world seems to be coming up with jokes about the demise of Hernandez as a tight end (in more than one way), I cannot bring myself to “like” posts about his new jersey being an orange jumpsuit. Nothing is funny, and as far as I am concerned Hernandez has yet to be pronounced guilty of murder.
I spent the afternoon watching the arraignment from the prosecutor and without the defense’s turn there is only one-side and speculation. I got the list of facts down, from the cell tower tracking to surveillance footage to the text messages from Hernandez to the others charged in the case. I want to believe that Hernandez did not do it. He is a new father, newly engaged and so young. He is a player on my favorite football team and it sucks to know that men who are suppose to be role models to millions can get caught up in such atrocious acts of violence.
For the family of Odin Lloyd, I wish that the justice system continues to do a proper and thorough investigation and trial so that the person or people responsible for his untimely death are held accountable. However, I will not jump on the train of mockery for the sake of being funny or to further shove shit in the faces of Patriots fans.
