Morgan Returns, Michonne Speaks Up: The Walking Dead Episode 312 Review
From what I was told, from what I read, and from what I gathered from last week’s episode, Sunday’s “Clear” was supposed to be epic. The Walking Dead is entering the final four of season three, and finally- finally- Michonne opens her mouth.
There was no Governor or Andrea bickering in Clear, no hard-decision making by Glenn and Maggie, no baby Judith crying and no Beth singing. Last night was all about the return of season one’s Morgan.
In all honesty, the episode was less than epic. I get that Morgan was an integral role in the survival of Rick way back when, but he has been gone for quite some time now. I forgot what it was like to…. like… him. However, it was heartbreaking to know that little Duana didn’t make it, and even worse to know that it was his zombie mother who had killed him (and all because Morgan couldn’t shoot her when he had the chance in season one). In the comic, we got to see a walker Duane. I suppose production thought it might be too much too quickly to re-introduce a character and then shove his dead son down our throats.
I found it completely endearing that Michonne and Carl bonded last night. She was kind, charming and witty. She gave Carl his space but pulled him in all at the same time. If she wanted to seal her spot in the Grimes’ crew for good, she was smart enough to go through Carl, first. Besides, Carl did tell his pops that she was A-OK in his book.
Morgan had the guns Rick’s former police station was lacking. I going to guess that when Rick and Morgan separated in episode one, Morgan turned right around and got what he needed- which was everything the station had! Overall, Morgan’s booby-trapped “home” was a jackpot for the threesome and if a box full of baretta’s don’t do the trick when the Governor comes for war, I’m going to assume that the vast array of assault rifles will do the trick.
That’s all for today’s review, folks. I have been stressing overtime about my place in the Walking Dead’s Biggest Fan contest. Only nine more days left and I am struggling to maintain my spot in the top ten. Please, if you are on a computer and have 30 seconds, click the link below and vote for me. I would appreciate it forever.

It wasn’t very epic from a plot perspective, but as a single episode in terms of character development and discussing major themes of coping in the apocalypse, it was sheer brilliance. There were no head-scratching decisions – even ignoring that hitchhiker made perfect sense. The subtlety of the sign to “Erin” plus her appearance later was a great reminder of the gravity of the situation. Because of the focus on the Governor storyline – and it’s a great one – it was more of an action film. It’s getting to know characters and what drives them that keeps people coming back – as any failed show that tried to copy “Lost” completely ignored. Can you tell I loved the episode?
Two other things I loved about it – No Andrea meant that I wasn’t screaming at the TV because of stupid decisions. And Michonne’s reply when Rick was annoyed with her eating Morgan’s food – “The mat said welcome.”
I absolutely loved this episode, especially Morgan’s rant about how the good and the bad die, but the weak survive. As for Michonne and Carl, they finally break out of their robotic ways and show some personality and dialogue. Easily one of the best (if not the best) episodes of the season.
This was the best episode since the premiere in my opinion.
Both Lincoln and Jones killed it in their performances. They play off of each other so well, I completely forgot I was watching a show. Poor Morgan…but damn you could argue he has a better setup than the survivors at the prison. Those traps were awesome!
